Kenya Asali Peaberry 200g
The is a Peaberry coffee.
Peaberries are a mutation where there is a single seed in a fruit as apposed to the normal two seeds. It is said that peaberries have more intense flavours as the single seed does not share resources during development. Producing them are a labour of love as they require hand-picking to separate them from the rest of the lot.
About the Farm:
Made up of SL28 & 34 varietals, this coffee is found at the foothills of the Aberdare ranges that form the Eastern border of the Great Rift Valley. Under the Asali Cooperative which has membership of over a hundred farmers, it produces more than a thousand bags each year. During harvesting in March, the coffee cherries are handpicked and pulped in a wet mill after which they are fermented for 24 hours and dried on drying tables. All defects are removed by hand at this drying stage.
Tasting notes:
This highly complex bean with floral aroma, has notes of blackcurrant and winey taste. The full-bodied syrupy mouthfeel with bright acidity leaves a memorable tannin aftertaste
