About the producer:

Luis Anibal Calderón lives at Finca Villa Betulia with his wife and 3 sons. He first purchased the land in 2005. He began planting specialty coffee varieties in 2012, when he planted 5,000 Geisha trees on around 5% of his farm.  

Ten years later, it was apparent to Luis Anibal that returns from cultivating Geisha were worth the extra effort. He decided to dedicate his entire farm to farm more delicate and rare specialty varieties, such as Geisha and Pink Bourbon. 

Today, Villa Betulia is planted with a wide range of specialty varieties inclu

ding Red, Pink and Yellow Geisha, Tabi, Java, Sidra, Striped Bourbon, Maragogype, Pacamara, Marageisha and several varieties of dwarf Geisha.

About the coffee:

Pink Bourbon is a rare and coveted find. A hybrid of Red and Yellow Bourbon, this varietal stands out in every way—from the striking pink color of its ripe coffee cherries to the sweetly complex flavor of its beans. Even in ideal growing conditions, Pink Bourbon is challenging to cultivate. In addition to meticulous plant maintenance, farmers must isolate their crops to encourage successful cross-pollination and the ongoing production of pink fruit. Harvesting also requires extra diligence: coffee pickers look for subtle color nuances that separate underripe cherries from mature ones. Given all the variables that need to align, this lot seems almost miraculous. Elegant and balanced with sweet floral tones. A truly breathtaking cup profile.

Anaerobic fermentation is a processing method where the coffee is processed in a fully sealed and oxygen deprived fermentation tank.
